UnCovering the Truth About Food
Food UnEarthed is a grade 3 – 5 curriculum with a detective them that teaches critical thinking skills to "Uncover the Truth About Food." In addition to teaching "big picture" nutrition, we teach label reading, media literacy, food politics, food and the environment, and more. Each lesson plan includes a snack component, many are generously donated by our Culinary Partners (see below.)
We are teaching our Food UnEarthed curriculum program in four NYC schools (4 classrooms in each school), reaching over 400 students and their teachers every week throughout the year. In addition, we’ll be teaching a shortened 6 week curriculum in two additional schools, staggered throughout the year so that we are always teaching an additional 100 students per week.
If you'd like your school to be considered, please email Executive Director Amie Hamlin by clicking here. While we will consider public schools in any borough of NYC, we are especially seeking schools in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
Thanks to our generous Culinary Partners!
Our Culinary Partners provide the snacks for the food portion of the lesson plan. We are looking for restaurants, caterers, food stores or companies that can provide plant-based snacks for 500 children at least once during the year. If you are interested in becoming a Culinary Partner, please email our Executive Director, Amie Hamlin, by clicking here.
